The Lululemon Murder
30-year-old Jayna Troxel Murray was murdered on March 11th, 2011 at the Lululemon store she worked at in Washington D.C. in the suburbs of Maryland, Bethesda.
Background
Jayna Murray was pursuing two master’s degrees from Johns Hopkins University. She was also working part-time at the Bethesda Lululemon.
Murray’s friends described her as a thrill-seeker and adventurous. She loved the excitement she got from bungee jumping but she also loved yoga. She felt that yoga balanced out the adventurous side of her. Making her calmer and stress-free which is why working at Lululemon was perfect for her.
The Murder
On the night of Wednesday, March 11th, 2011, Jayna Murray and her co-worker Brittany Norwood were working the closing shift. Both were due to finish at 9:45 pm and Jayna had the keys and was responsible for locking up the store after closing.
On the morning of March 12th, 2011 the manager Rachel Oertli arrived at the Lululemon store at around 8 am to start setting up for the day ahead. To her surprise when she walked into the store the door was unlocked and the lights were on. She was upset that the employees working the closing shift forgot to lock up properly.
